Is there an after-care program in Spotswood for students with working parents?
Yes! Our C.A.R.E.S. (Children's After school Recreation and Enrichment at Spotswood) program offers a structured after school environment where students have the opportunity to engage in educational and recreational activities at a nominal cost. Are Spotswood's teachers highly qualified?
Yes, we are justifiably proud of our caring teaching staff. We have met all the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act since its inception to include having "highly qualified" teachers.

Are Spotswood Schools safe?
Yes. We work hard every day to ensure your child's safety. At our high school, we have a School Resource Officer from the Spotswood Police Department. We do random bag searches and employ hall monitors. Our high school and junior high have closed-circuit television cameras. All our schools practice fire drills, emergency evacuations, and lockdowns on a periodic basis. For more information, read our Safety and Security document.

Are there after-school activities for my child?
Yes, our schools offer a variety of activities for our students. Appleby School has chorus and band for students. The Memorial Middle School has sports for both girls and boys, as well as clubs. Our high school offers a comprehensive list of after-school sports and clubs, art, and music activities. We believe a well-rounded educational experience is one of the many reasons Spotswood Schools keep "ALL CHILDREN MOVING FORWARD." How do I stay up on what's going on in the schools?
Visit our Web site for frequent updates. Or you can give us your email address and sign up for our Email Blast program where you will get periodic announcements about school events. Just send your email address and your child's name, grade, and homeroom teacher's name to emailblast@spotswood.k12.nj.us.
Spotswood residents with cable television can also view our TV channel 3 on Comcast for up to date school and community announcements, as well as the daily menu for our school's cafeterias.

How can I get involved in the schools?
We are very happy to have parents involved in our schools on a daily basis. Whether it's as a volunteer reader, PLAYground committee member, or a grandparent visiting a child in class, you will be welcomed in our schools. If you desire a more involved role, we invite you to join our Parent Teacher Association.
Spotswood also has an Education Foundation with the goal to foster community and private sector relationships that will serve the interests and needs of Spotswood School children. The objective is to provide grants to the Spotswood educational staff and students for the development of programs, projects, and activities consistent with the Spotswood mission statement. Is there a Board of Education?
Yes, Spotswood has a six-member board that serves as the policy-making body and oversight authority for the Spotswood School District. Members must be residents of Spotswood and are elected to three-year terms. Board of Education members are volunteers from the community and are not paid for their services. Helmetta and Milltown send students to the Spotswood Schools and share a seat on the board with each community having a vote in alternating years. The Board meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at the High School Media Center at 7:00 p.m. Please join us.
