District Announcements
2010-2011 School Budget
The Spotswood Board of Education continues to be committed to the practice of fiscal restraint in crafting our schools' budgets.  The last two school budgets presented to the voters, for 2008-09 and 2009-10 called for no tax increases.

The upcoming budget for 2010-11 presents us with a serious challenge. The Governor has already declared a $10 billion dollar shortfall for the state and announced plans for deep cuts in state aid for education.  We are faced with that loss in aid, coupled with other revenue declines and expense increases due to contractual obligations and the rise in costs for energy, supplies and services.

We are currently exploring our options in meeting this challenge.  All items are on the table and we are forced to consider staff reductions, cuts in programs offered and the imposition of fees to close our budget gap.  We are committed to maintaining some of the comprehensive offerings in our schools as we believe that is a big part of why Spotswood schools are so special.  We will keep you posted as we work to present another budget to the voters that recognizes the economic reality of our current situation while seeking to keep all our children moving forward.

Our public budget presentation will occur in late March but we will will provide other updates as we approach that date.  Please also feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have regarding the upcoming budget.

Thank you for your trust as we work together on this most important issue.
